Poll Talk: Iowa slips in coaches’ poll despite 42-3 victory, moves up in AP Poll
IOWA CITY, Iowa — Iowa’s dominating 42-3 win over instate rival Iowa State failed to impress the coaches (or their subordinates) voting in the USA Today Coaches poll.
The Hawkeyes were 10th last week in the USA Today Coaches poll but slipped to 11th after their victory. In the volatile nature of early-season polls, it’s not surprising. Iowa opened the season ranked 15th in the coaches’ poll, then jumped to 10th after a 45-21 win against Miami of Ohio. Louisville, which has scored an astounding 132 points in two games, leapt past Iowa into 10th.
Iowa is 13th in the latest Associated Press poll. The Hawkeyes were ranked 16th last week after opening the season at 17th.
In ESPN’s power rankings, Iowa inched up a spot to No. 17.
