TAMPA, Fla. — Iowa’s first competition with Florida was more gutter than glitz.
The Hawkeyes battled the Gators on Tuesday in a 10-frame bowling competition at Splitsville, a Tampa bowling alley. Florida put the chomp on the Hawkeyes in a 797-691 beatdown. Of course it was all in fun and not important like, say, next week’s Outback Bowl.
Iowa’s contestants included QB C.J. Beathard, OT Cole Croston, WR Riley McCarron, TE George Kittle, TE Peter Pekar and LB Amani Jones.
Here’s a video of the first five frames of their competition:

As a reminder, the Hawkeyes (8-4) and the No. 17 Gators (8-4) square off in Tampa on Jan. 2, with kickoff at Raymond James Stadium set for 1 p.m. ET.
