Iowa has a new special teams commitment.
Ryan Gersonde, from Milwaukee, said Tuesday on Twitter that he’s committed to the Hawkeyes. Gersonde is commit No. 20 for the Hawkeyes’ 2017 recruiting class.
“I am proud to announce my commitment to the University of Iowa to continue my academic and athletic career #Swarm17,” Gersonde wrote.
Gersonde is a 5-star recruit according to Kohl’s Kicking Camps. He’s also rated No. 9 nationally at punter.

Gersonde, listed at 6-foot-4 and 180 pounds, took an official visit to Iowa this past weekend. This past Thursday, the punter announced he had received a full scholarship offer from the Hawkeyes.
Less than one week later, he’s committed — the day before National Signing Day.

Gersonde flashes a powerful leg hitting multiple punts over 50 yards including a massive 68 yard punt in July of 2015. He graded out at the 5 star level since July of 2015. He is a lefty punter who has a D1 frame and can hit a D1 punt. Gersonde is a punter worth looking at because of his upside and potential. He has some rare qualities that should make him attractive to college coaches.
Gersonde’s commitment made for the Hawkeyes’ second of the day. 3-star DB Geno Stone flipped from Kent State to Iowa.
