Josey Jewell is out against Northwestern. The Hawkeyes will be without their defensive leader and potential All-America candidate on Saturday in Evanston.
Jewell suffered a right shoulder injury two weeks ago against Illinois, but he returned to the game. He will not play against the Wildcats, according to Iowa radio broadcaster Gary Dolphin. Starting Iowa safety Brandon Snyder also is out for the game.

Iowa sports information director Steve Roe said Jewell will be out only “hopefully for the short term.”
With Jewell’s injury, Ben Niemann will play middle linebacker and Kevin Ward will get a start at outside linebacker.
Jewell, a potential Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year candidate, has 68 tackles, 9 1/2 tackles for loss, 2 1/2 sacks and 1 interception this season.
