The country’s top-ranked wrestler at 125 pounds, Gilman beat Wisconsin’s Jens Lantz by a major decision and pinned Minnesota’s Ethan Lizak, the sixth-ranked wrestler in the weight class. The pin of Lizak was the eighth of the season for Gilman, who leads the No. 3 Hawkeyes in that department.
Gilman had to battle to get the pin. He fell behind Lizak 8-0 before mounting an improbable comeback which helped the Hawkeyes beat the Gophers.
Gilman was the national runner-up in his weight class last season.
