Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz: Jay Scheel will play, Parker Hesse is ‘probably the furthest away’
Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz updated the status of WR Jay Scheel and DE Parker Hesse on his weekly radio show on Wednesday.
Ferentz, who signed a new contract extension on Tuesday, said Scheel will play Saturday against rival Iowa State. Hesse is much more of a long shot; Ferentz said Hesse is “probably the furthest away” from playing.

Hesse injured his left hamstring against Miami (Ohio) after he recovered a fumble. The sophomore had 44 tackles and also returned an interception for a touchdown (vs. Nebraska) a season ago.
The 6-foot-1 Scheel, a sophomore. missed the season opener with a lingering leg injury.
