According to Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz, the Achilles injury that Hawkeyes offensive lineman Ike Boettger suffered against Iowa State will be as serious as it originally seemed.
During his weekly teleconference, Ferentz said Boettger would miss 4-6 months with what was originally assumed to be a season-ending injury.
Boettger injured his Achilles in the third quarter of the Hawkeyes’ 44-41 overtime win over the Cyclones, and Ferentz immediately feared the worst.
“I’m not optimistic,” Ferentz said told reporters after the game against Iowa State. “I think it sounds like an Achilles … Yeah, he’s done for the season if that’s the case.”
Sean Welsh is slated to take Boettger’s place at right tackle until the 6-foot-6, 300-pound senior returns to the lineup.
