The University of Iowa announced Thursday that plans for a major renovation of Kinnick Stadium had been approved by the state’s Board of Regents.
The $89.9 million “revitalization” calls for the demolition and reconstruction of the stadium’s entire north end zone. Included in the update will be a second deck for seating, new restrooms, expanded concourses, improved concessions and an enclosed walkway to the west campus Transportation Center.
There will also be a new video board larger than the one currently behind the south end zone, and new luxury boxes.
Iowa athletic director Gary Barta said in his presentation to the Board of Regents on Wednesday that the new capacity of the stadium will be approximately 69,000 when completed.
