IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa starting center James Daniels and starting defensive end Parker Hesse weren’t dressed for warmups against Iowa State on Saturday.
Daniels, a sophomore, had been called “a game-time decision” by Iowa radio analyst Ed Podolak on Des Moines radio station KXNO on Friday. Daniels started two games and appeared in all 14 games last season. Daniels was a part of the Iowa offensive line that paved the way for the ground game to churn out 212 yards and average 7.2 yards per carry.
Hesse injured his hamstring against Miami (Ohio) last week. Defensive end Anthony Nelson will get the start. Nelson was named the Big Ten freshman of the week after recording six tackles, 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
Lucas LeGrand, listed as the backup center on the depth chart, is in line to get his first start at center. LeGrand, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound sophomore, saw action in the season opener against Miami (Ohio) and played in one game last season.
