Sam Stoll, the Iowa wrestler who was accidentally shot in the knee, underwent surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and has been released, Hawkeyes coach Tom Brands said in a statement.
Stoll “is doing well and that is great news. His health was our number one concern. We are still gathering information and once the police investigation is complete we will follow all University and Athletics Department code of conduct policies,” Brands said.
Stoll has had two ACL tears previously, but it’s unclear if the injuries were suffered on the same leg that was shot. The 22-year-old earned All-American honors as a heavyweight last season, finishing fifth at the NCAA Championships.
According to the Iowa City Press-Citizen’s Aimee Breaux, Stoll was shot early Tuesday from what police called an accidental discharge.
