IOWA CITY, Iowa — Iowa’s Sept. 23 game with Penn State was selected for primetime and will air on ABC, the Big Ten announced today.
Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET (6:30 p.m. CT). Penn State (2-0) is ranked No. 5 by the Associated Press while Iowa (2-0) is unranked.
It’s the first time Penn State has played in Iowa City since 2012, which also was a night game. In fact, the last three times the Nittany Lions have played in Kinnick Stadium, the game ended under the lights. In both 2010 and 2012 it aired in primetime, while in 2008 it was a late-afternoon kickoff. Five of the last six games in the series — including two in Happy Valley — finished under the lights.
The Hawkeyes won eight of nine in the series from 2000 through 2010 but the Nittany Lions have won three straight. Last year Penn State blasted Iowa 41-14 at Beaver Stadium with 599 total yards.
The game features two of the nation’s best running backs in Penn State’s Saquon Barkley and Iowa’s Akrum Wadley.
Penn State is the defending Big Ten champion, while Iowa finished 8-5 last year.
