IOWA CITY, Iowa — Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard lost his helmet during the celebration following the upset win over No. 3 Michigan on Saturday, and it required the help of law enforcement to get it back.
“The equipment guy told me one of the cops walking down the street saw a kid wearing it,” Beathard said.
“That was the last thing I was thinking about was my helmet,” Beathard said. “I figured we would get them back and we did.”
He didn’t realize the helmet was gone until he got back to the locker room. He said there were about seven helmets missing after the game.
“The next day they said I guess they had all of them back except for mine,” Beathard said. “I guess they ended up finding it. I didn’t find out until a couple of days ago.”
Linebacker Ben Niemann also lost his helmet during the game. It was a little easier to retrieve than Beathard’s.
“Our equipment guy saw somebody in the stands with it,” Niemann said.
