After back-to-back stellar seasons at Iowa, LB Josey Jewell is receiving plenty of praise.
Sports on Earth’s Matt Brown placed Jewell at No. 3 in his ranking of linebackers for the upcoming season. As a junior, he racked up 124 total tackles (No. 12 in Division I) and 9 pass breakups, along with being named a 2016 Butkus Award finalist. He was the lone non-SEC player from the group.
In his sophomore season, Jewell totaled even better numbers, finishing with 126 total tackles, 3 sacks and 4 interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.

Nevertheless, the 2017 NFL Draft’s advisory committee provided him with extra motivation as he looks toward his senior campaign.
“They told me what I already knew. That I need to keep working,’’ Jewell said. “That’s kind of what I expected. I figured this was my one chance to check things out, and that I might as well do that and see what would happen.’’
LSU’s Arden Key and Virginia’s Micah Kiser are the only linebackers listed ahead of Jewell. He will have his first shot at proving he’s the best of the bunch in Iowa’s season opener against Wyoming on Sept. 2.
