Iowa wrestling has addressed its biggest weakness, the 133-pound class, adding transfer Jason Renteria away from Nebraska.
Renteria tweeted on Sunday he’ll be joining the Hawkeyes. A one-time Iowa commit, Renteria comes to Iowa City with three years of eligibility remaining after obtaining his release from the Huskers in May.
“I fell in love again with the school,” Renteria told the Des Moines Register on Sunday. “Coming back and being on an official visit, I thought it was something special.”
Happy Father’s Day to the old man that’s made everything possible for me today. His surprise gift was seeing his son will be continuing his career at the University of Iowa. Without him and also my family this would of never happened. We did it Dad, love ya. #FightforIowa 🐤🐥 pic.twitter.com/VzMGx0VYbI

Renteria finished fifth at the Big Ten Championships last season, qualifying for the NCAA Championships. He did not compete, however, as he failed to make weight.
