After eight seasons, Iowa softball coach Marla Looper has resigned to pursue other professional opportunities, athletic director Gary Barta announced Wednesday.
“We appreciate all of Marla’s contributions the past eight years,” Barta said in the press release. “Marla has served Iowa and her student-athletes well and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

Since becoming the head coach in 2011, Looper led Iowa to a 172-247-1 record and a 68-113 mark in the Big Ten. This season, the Hawkeyes won just six of their 22 conference games and finished 21-32 overall.
A national search will begin immediately to find Looper’s replacement.
“I have been fortunate to work with some amazing young women throughout my eight years,” Looper said. “They have excelled on the field, and in the classroom and community. I am thankful for the opportunity I have had to serve at Iowa and lead the women’s softball program.”
