Iowa basketball will be without talented freshman Tyler Cook for a few weeks.
The team announced Tuesday night that Cook will be out approximately three weeks with a fractured right index finger. Cook is second on the team in scoring (13.7 points per game) and in rebounding (5.3).
Cook suffered the injury at practice last week when the Hawkeyes were at the Emerald Coast Classic in Florida. Cook had surgery on Tuesday and didn’t make the trip to Tuesday night’s game vs. Notre Dame.
“After discussions with Tyler and the medical staff, it was determined that surgery was the best treatment for Tyler in terms of proper healing and recovery time,” Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said in a release. “We expect Tyler to make a full recovery and look forward to him rejoining his teammates on the court soon.”
Cook is a 6-foot-9, 253-pound freshman from St. Louis.

The freshman isn’t the only forward out with an injury. Senior Dale Jones fractured his right wrist on Nov. 17 and is expected to be out for another eight weeks.
