Iowa's offensive output last week against Wisconsin was bad, but far from the worst in Hawkeyes history.

How Iowa once gained minus-19 yards; fan brings Nile Kinnick back to life

Iowa football is always the main topic in Iowa Breakfast Club, Land of 10’s daily Hawkeyes notebook — but we cover news, notes and analysis across Hawkeyes sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Iowa football, recruiting, basketball and more.

It could be worse

Iowa’s 66 total yards against Wisconsin last week was bad. But it was nothing compared with the minus-19 total yards the Hawkeyes gained against the Badgers in 1941. Mike Hlas of the Cedar Rapids Gazette investigates how Iowa ended up with that figure.

Bringing Nile Kinnick back to life

Fans know about the man who dresses as Nile Kinnick, waves a flag and recites his 1939 Heisman Trophy speech before Iowa football games. But fans don’t know the story on how Nick Tomlonovic stumbled upon this, that he’s attended more than 100 straight regular season games or that he never watched college football in high school. Let Land of 10 introduce you to Tomlonovic here.

Not discussing it

Saturday could be Josh Jackson’s final game in Kinnick Stadium. The junior cornerback is a potential early round NFL draft pick. He wanted nothing to do with questions about his Iowa future on Tuesday.

Downgrading Amani Hooker

Odds are, sophomore safety Amani Hooker will miss his second straight game with a knee bruise. Coach Kirk Ferentz wasn’t optimistic in his press conference on Tuesday about Hooker’s chances of playing against Purdue on Saturday.

Take your pick

Land of 10 asked readers to pick their offensive and defensive MVPs from former Iowa players in the NFL. It’s not an easy decision. Who are you taking?
