Sigh of relief
Iowa fans worry the team’s quarterback depth chart, full of young players, will deter recruits from picking the Hawkeyes. They don’t need to be concerned with 2019 quarterback Jacob Clark. He told HawkeyeNation.com’s Rob Howe depth charts won’t impact his decision.
Telling me there’s a chance
Iowa is one of five finalists for Illinois 4-star running back Jirehl Brock. He is the top-rated running back the Hawkeyes are after, and they’re sitting in good position to land his commitment.
Brian Ferentz preached about breaking tendencies in his first year as Iowa’s offensive coordinator. He did when it came to third-down play calling. The third part of the Land of 10 series on Iowa’s offense examines the difference between Ferentz and his predecessor, Greg Davis, on third down.
3 if by air
How can Iowa land a commitment from 4-star wide receiver David Bell? The Hawkeyes need to show growth in their passing game. It’s not a surprise as this wide receiver usage is a common concern for pass catchers. The question now is can Iowa show the necessary development Bell seeks.
Rivals’ Blair Sanderson caught up with defensive back signee Terry Roberts before he reports to campus in June. Roberts told Sanderson about why former Iowa defensive back Jovon Johnson passed on some advice about defensive backs coach Phil Parker and why he can be so hard on his players.
The big board
The Des Moines Register’s Matthew Bain updated his Iowa men’s basketball 2019 recruiting target list. In-state 4-star point guard D.J. Carton leads the way. Point guard is a priority in the class.
Best of the best
Iowa’s Jahisha Thomas took home the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Year honor on Tuesday. She won the long and triple jumps at the Big Ten outdoor meet last weekend. Now she will look to replicate her success at the NCAA West preliminary meet on May 24-26.
Iowa baseball defeated Western Illinois 5-4 when Mitchell Boe stole home in the ninth inning on Tuesday. The Hawkeyes couldn’t afford to lose this one. They likely need to win all three games against Penn State this weekend to have a good shot at making the NCAA Tournament.
The hardest part
Five former Iowa football players tried out for NFL teams last weekend. None have signed a pro contract yet. Land of 10 checks in on where things sit with former Hawkeyes and the NFL here.
