Not a big deal

No, the de-commitment of 2019 cornerback Larry Tracy isn’t a huge loss for the Hawkeyes. Land of 10 explains why it’s not as big of a deal as it may seem. Also, Rob Howe of HawkeyeNation.com wrote about how Tracy might still pick Iowa in the end.

Walking into big roles

Iowa has a tradition of walk-ons becoming key members of the team. Wide receiver Nick Easley is the latest and an example of why the Hawkeyes can sell chances to walk-ons in ways other programs can’t.

Catching up with …

Whatever happened to 2018 wide receiver Nikia Jones? Iowa visited him earlier this month but not much has happened since. Josh Helmholdt of Rivals caught up with Jones about his recruitment. Iowa is in consideration but probably won’t land him unless it offers a scholarship. The link requires a Rivals subscription.

A much-needed explanation

Athletic director Gary Barta told Chad Leistikow of the Des Moines Register why he didn’t release the contract extension for men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffery. Barta said it’s fair for people to criticize this decision. If he believes so, and thought as much when the contract was signed, it’s probably a sign he should have announced it back in November to save him and the athletic department from the transparency questions that arose in the last week.

Getting into the details

Ever wonder what Barta’s contract looks like? Land of 10 provides the answer. He’s due for a pay increase starting in July.

Leave head gear at home

Wrestler Pat Downey won’t wrestle for Iowa this season. Leistikow broke the news about the graduate transfer on Monday night.
