AMES, Iowa — Iowa right tackle Ike Boettger left the game in the third quarter and didn’t return to the lineup for the rest of the drive.
Boettger went down on a run to the right side by running back James Butler. The Iowa medical staff looked at Boettger’s right leg after the play. He walked off the field on his own after the play.
The Hawkeyes moved Sean Welsh from guard to right tackle and brought Ross Reynolds in to play right guard.
The loss of Boettger didn’t slow the offense. Iowa scored a touchdown on the drive Boettger went out on to push its lead to 21-10 when running back Akrum Wadley scored a 1-yard touchdown with 7 minutes, 21 seconds left in the third quarter.
This is the second straight game Iowa dealt with an injury to a starting offensive lineman. Center James Daniels didn’t play in the season opener against Wyoming last week because of a knee injury. He started against Iowa State.
