More than just a wave

Mitch Sherman of ESPN took a behind-the-scenes look at Iowa’s newest tradition: the wave to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital after the first quarter of football games. Sherman spent time at the hospital on game day Saturday and spoke with the Ferentz family to get an understanding of why this is such a personal tradition for so many in the state.

Safe to say Amani Hooker now starts

The Hawkeyes released the Penn State week depth chart on Monday. Amani Hooker is listed as the starting free safety. Land of 10 explains this is just the latest form of praise for Hooker from the coaching staff.

Walking away

Jinaya Houston is leaving the Iowa women’s basketball team, Matt Coss of the Quad Cities Times is reporting. The Hawkeyes announced Houston, a freshman, was taking time away for personal reasons. She told Coss she no longer loves playing basketball.

Set your calendars

The Iowa-Michigan State football game set for Sept. 30 will kick off at 4 p.m. ET, it was announced Monday. It is the first meeting between the teams since the 2015 Big Ten Championship.

Lasting legacy

Former Iowa linebacker Chad Greenway is the newest American Needs Farmers Wall of Honor member. It is designed to honor former football players who exemplify the tenacity, work ethic and character of the Iowa farmer.
