Meet the new quarterback

Former Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard is set to make his first NFL start on Sunday. Nick Waggoner of ESPN introduced 49ers fans to their new signal caller. The story hit all the key highlights, including Beathard’s NFL family connection, his ties to country music and why San Francisco selected him in the NFL draft.

Making the most of his opportunity

Two years ago, Akrum Wadley entered the Northwestern game buried on the depth chart. A series of injuries forced him into the game as Iowa’s only healthy running back. All he did was rush for 204 yards and 4 touchdowns and it altered his trajectory into an all-conference running back, as Marc Morehouse of the Cedar Rapids Gazette recalls.

Mid-term exams

It seemed like Iowa turned a corner with its rushing attack against Illinois before the bye. It’s hard to say for sure because of the Fighting Illini’s struggles. Land of 10 breaks down why Northwestern is a litmus test for where the running  game sits.

The MIP?

Mark Emmert of the Des Moines Register makes the case of men’s basketball guard Jordan Bohannon being the team’s most indispensable player. He also drops an impressive stat from last season about former UCLA guard Lonzo Ball and Bohannon.

Question of the day

Land of 10 debuted a new feature on Wednesday. It’s the question of the day and the first one tackles coach Kirk Ferentz’s record coming off of a bye week.
