Latest Iowa football news

C.J. Fiedorowicz sitting out

Don’t expect to see former Iowa tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz in NFL action on Thursday night. The Houston Texas are planning as if Fiedorowicz won’t play in its Week 2 game against Cincinnati, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. Fiedorowicz suffered a concussion on Sunday.

Depth chart breakdown

The Hawkeyes are yet to confirm that tackle Ike Boettger likely will miss the rest of the season with a right Achilles tendon injury, but the latest depth chart seems to indicate that is the case. Boettger isn’t on it and Land of 10 takes a look at what the new offensive linelooks like without him.

Taking his time

Matthew Bain of the Iowa City Press-Citizen caught up with Iowa 2019 recruiting target Jack Campbell. The Cedar Falls High School (Iowa) linebacker holds offers from Iowa, Iowa State and Northern Iowa. This recruitment will probably take a while. Don’t expect him to make a decision soon.

Some George Kittle love

George Kittle’s status for his NFL debut was iffy. The former Hawkeyes tight end was officially listed as questionable with a hamstring injury. It didn’t stop him from playing 54 snaps, according to David Fucillo of Niners Nation. It’s a good sign for Kittle going forward. Expect him to be a big part of the San Francisco 49ers offense.

Iowa film study

The Land of 10 Iowa film review of the Iowa State game covers a lot of ground. Sophomore quarterback Nathan Stanley answered his biggest question mark. The new offense includes run-pass options and a breakdown of the pass defense problems. There is a lot there and the development of Stanley probably means the most for this season and the future of the team.

Turn on the lights

The No. 5 Penn State vs. Iowa football game on Sept. 23 is headed to prime time, it was announced on Monday. ABC will air the game starting at 7:30 p.m., ET.

Honor roll

The Big Ten named Stanley its co-offensive player of the week on Monday with Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor. Stanley threw for 333 yards and 5 touchdowns in the 44-41 overtime win over the Cyclones on Saturday. The voters made the right call here.
