Iowa completes 99-yard drive to take halftime lead at Rutgers
PISCATAWAY, N.J. — After stagnating for most of the first half, Iowa rumbled 99 yards in eight plays to take a 7-0 halftime lead against Rutgers.
The Hawkeyes took over at their own 1-yard line with 2:04 left in the half. The drive ended with a 36-yard touchdown pass from C.J. Beathard to tight end George Kittle with 34 seconds left.
The drive took eight plays and lasted 90 seconds. Beathard connected with Kittle twice for 56 yards on the drive. Beathard also scrambled twice for 25 yards.
The Hawkeyes receive the kickoff to open the second half. Iowa has outgained Rutgers 239-189.
Rutgers star wide receiver and kick returner Janarion Grant left the game with a leg injury late in in the first half after a 76-yard reception.
