Why the Penguin loves Iowa football, why the Hawkeyes’ Big Ten tourney baseball game was postponed and more
The best way to start your day is right here at Landof10.com as we prepare you for everything you need to know about Iowa sports. We’ll share our Iowa Breakfast Club here with you at 7 a.m. (ET) Monday through Friday.
So let’s get to it. Here is the Iowa Breakfast Club for Thursday, May 25.
Move over, Ashton Kutcher — a new actor is into Iowa
When the Penguin isn’t spending his time as a mobster, he’s apparently taking in Iowa football games.
Actor Robin Lord Taylor, who plays the Penguin on Gotham, is a big Iowa fan, as he explained to ESPN’s Michael Rothstein in this Q&A posted Wednesday.
Taylor is from Shueyville, Iowa, and apparently grew up in a family with season tickets. He would sit on the truck as the family grilled and his parents drank Bloody Mary’s. He remembers Chuck Long and considers himself a jinx because he attended the 2016 Rose Bowl, a 45-16 Stanford win over Iowa.
In other words, he sounds like a typical Iowa fan — just one who appears on Fox every Monday.
Delayed start to the postseason
The Iowa-Maryland Big Ten Tournament first round baseball game was postponed on Wednesday and will instead take place Thursday at 1:30 p.m. ET. It will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
The game was pushed back because weather delays earlier in the day pushed the start of the Iowa-Maryland game past the 10 p.m. ET curfew the league mandates for the tournament.
The loser of Iowa-Maryland will end up playing a doubleheader Thursday, with the second game, against Purdue, starting at 5 p.m. ET. The winner will face Nebraska on Friday at a time to be determined.

The delay will push back the much-anticipated pitching matchup between Iowa’s Nick Gallagher, a second-team all-conference selection, and Maryland’s Brian Shaffer, the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year. Both enter with an ERA below 2.60. Runs are likely to be at a premium.
Perkins is one of the highest-rated players Iowa is targeting for the 2018 class and the Hawkeyes will be going against the top teams in the country for his services. Michigan, Oklahoma, Georgia, USC and Texas are among the squads Perkins is considering.
This will be a tough recruiting battle for Iowa to win. Though the 247Sports crystal ball is picking Oklahoma to land Perkins, the Hawkeyes were one of the first programs to offer him last June. Being around at the beginning of a player’s recruitment tends to matter more today than in years past. If Iowa holds any advantage with Perkins this is it.
Meet Peter Jok
Will you be in the Des Moines area on Friday? Do you want to meet Peter Jok? If the answer to both questions is yes, you are in luck. Jok announced via social media he will be signing autographs at from 5-6 p.m. at the Valley Community Center in West Des Moines.
Back in town for a few days, so I'll be doing a meet and greet for all my fans that supported and still supporting me through my journey! pic.twitter.com/yfNsiqgkHH
