Connor McCaffery has been placed on scholarship by Iowa basketball, the team announced Wednesday.
The son of coach Fran McCaffery played in four games during his first season with the Hawkeyes, scoring 8 points in 53 total minutes. He has four years of eligibility remaining after his medical hardship waiver was approved last week.
“Connor went through a lot his freshman season, but remained positive despite suffering physical and health setbacks,” the coach said in a news release. “Although he did not play in many games last season, he was an important part of this team on and off the court and will continue to be the next four years.
“The coaching staff and I agreed that Connor has earned this scholarship and we look forward to his contributions the next four years.”
The 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard was the No. 1 recruit in Iowa in the 2017 class, beating out Jerry Myles, the only other recruit in Iowa rated on the 247Sports composite recruiting database.
