NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Iowa and Rutgers have played football since the 1800s, yet they’ve never met on the football field until Saturday.
The Hawkeyes and Scarlet Knights open Big Ten play against one another at 12:01 p.m. ET Saturday. Both teams are 2-1. There are plenty of similarities between the staffs, with Rutgers coach Chris Ash growing up in Iowa and Rutgers offensive line coach A.J. Blazek playing for Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes back in 1999 and 2000.
Iowa has won eight consecutive Big Ten games. Rutgers has lost all four previous meetings with Big Ten West Division squads.
