The hype around Spencer Lee was certainly palpable.
And, on Friday night, the freshman delivered. In his Hawkeyes debut, his first match ended with a first-period pin in just 46 seconds.
Lee’s first win for Iowa came against Michigan State’s Rayvon Foley. Foley entered the match with an 18-3 record.

Here’s what Tom Brands — Iowa’s wrestling coach — said about Lee a few days ago:
“He’s a unique talent,” Brands said. “Good student. Good kid. Represents our program the way we want our young guys to represent our program. He reminds me of me socially, not in wrestling. He would have whipped my tail when I was his age.”
Brands won an Olympic gold medal in 1996 and three NCAA titles with the Hawkeyes as a wrestler, so, the hype is real.
Lee was the nation’s top recruit, and he chose Iowa after winning three consecutive Pennsylvania state titles. He lost one match throughout his entire high school career, and that came on a torn ACL.
What Lee does from this point forward seems like it will be nothing short of spectacular. And luckily for us, we’ll all get to witness it.
Hawkeyes fans can’t wait to see what’s to come, either:
Lee over Foley by fall in 46 seconds. This place is going nuts. #Iowa is up 6-0.

Go to watch @LeeSpencerlee36 and some how miss it. Guess that’s what happens when you’re on the match for less than a minute.
