Desmond King was a standout corner at Iowa, and on Monday he displayed the speed that could have him playing the same position in the NFL.

Desmond King ran a 4.5-second 40-yard dash according to reports Monday from Iowa’s pro day, answering questions about his speed after he was unable to run at the NFL combine in Indianapolis earlier this month.

4.5 40 today for Desmond King. Returns to Indy on April 14 for medical recheck. Abdominal and hip stuff going on.

His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, confirmed a time in the low-4.5 range to reporters at the Hansen Performance Center, as well.

King, a 2015 consensus All-American, has faced questions about whether he is fast enough to play cornerback in the NFL. He has said he would be willing to play safety or nickel back if that’s where pro teams want him, but an abdominal strain kept him from running at the combine.

King told media on Monday he was happy with his performance in the 40, which would have put him in the middle of the pack among cornerbacks at the combine.

In four seasons at Iowa, King recorded 263 tackles and 14 interceptions.

NFL draft analysts consider King a likely second- or third-round draft pick, though it’s possible he could sneak into the late first round.
