The start of Connor McCaffery’s basketball debut was postponed yet again Thursday, as Iowa coach Fran McCaffery confirmed the guard will be out at least three weeks with mono.
“He is really, sick, swollen … I feel really bad for him,” the elder McCaffery said, per Land of 10’s Bobby La Gesse.

This would explain why McCaffery was out for Iowa’s win over Grambling State on Thursday. He had previously missed the Hawkeyes’ first two games due to an ankle injury, but that had healed enough to allow him to face Grambling State until the mono started showing days before the contest.
Now, it appears that earliest McCaffery could return is Dec. 7 in the Cy-Hawk game against Iowa State.
McCaffery is a Top 100 point guard from Iowa City West High School. He was expected to redshirt this season and play baseball, but backup point guard Christian Williams’ decision to transfer just before the season forced him to switch gears.
