Bobby Beathard, the former general manager of the Redskins, Chargers and others, is one of the finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year. He was on NFL Network on Wednesday afternoon to discuss his nomination when he heard a familiar voice.
“What’s up, Grandpa?” C.J. Beathard asked.
The former Iowa quarterback surprised his grandfather during his televised interview. C.J. currently represents the Beathards in the NFL as a rookie quarterback with the 49ers.
After the initial surprise, C.J. Beathard was asked to discuss his grandfather’s impact on him.
“Growing up at a young age, all I knew is that he was the reason we could go to training camps, Chargers training camp, Falcons training camp,” C.J. Beathard said. “I didn’t know what he did, what he was, I just knew we were going to another football game. But as you get older you start to realize really the impact he had on the NFL and what kind of legend he is in the NFL.”
