Iowa sent four wrestlers to final championship matches in the Big Ten Tournament, and the lightest one has come out a winner.
Thomas Gilman beat Nebraska’s Tim Lambert to claim the title for the 125-pound weight class on Sunday, finishing the season as the only undefeated wrestler at that weight with a 27-0 record. He’s now 101-11 in his career as a Hawkeye. Gilman came in as the top-ranked wrestler in his class, and Lambert was No. 3. This is Gilman’s seventh career win over Lambert in seven matches. Lambert, also a senior, moves to 26-6 on the season.
The Iowa senior was a runner-up at the NCAA Championships during his All-American campaign as a junior. He won by fall in his Big Ten quarterfinal match against Ohio State’s Jose Rodriguez and beat Michigan’s Connor Youtsey, 16-5, in the semifinals. Next up are the NCAA’s, which take place from March 16-18 in St. Louis.
