Well, nobody is going to be surprised at how effective Iowa’s tight ends are this season.
According to Athlon Sports, the Hawkeyes have the first- and 14th-best tight ends in the country in Noah Fant and T.J. Hockenson, respectively. A year ago, Fant recorded 30 receptions for 494 yards and 11 touchdowns. Hockenson had 23 catches for 311 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Iowa finished with an 8-5 record and Steven Lassan of Athlon Sports wrote that the tight end duo is arguably the best in college football going into 2018. He also wrote that Fant leads the way as Athlon Sports’ first-team All-America tight end.
“Iowa has produced its share of standout tight ends under coach Kirk Ferentz, and Fant is the next star for the Hawkeyes at this position,” Lassan said. “He ranked second on the team with 30 catches for 494 yards last fall. Fant’s 11 touchdown catches paced the Iowa receiving corps and all players in the Big Ten. The junior is the best all-around tight end in college football for 2018.”
The Hawkeyes begin their 2018 season at home against Northern Illinois on Sept. 1.
