It’s not uncommon for football coaches to outline what they want to see out of their players.
But it’s safe to say Indiana offensive coordinator Mike DeBord went the extra mile when he did so on Twitter. DeBord tweeted a list of what fans can expect out of his Hoosiers offense Saturday afternoon, and he did it in very emphatic fashion.
INDIANA OFFENSE will 1. Protect the ball for the TEAM 2. Be EXPLOSIVE 3. TEMPO
— Mike DeBord (@IUCoachDeBo) February 11, 2017
Announcing to the world in all caps, DeBord proclaimed that his offense will protect the football, show off some explosive plays and push the pace of the offense. The words “team,” “explosive” and “tempo” were all capitalized in DeBord’s tweet.
DeBord was hired by Indiana in January as a part of Tom Allen’s new coaching staff in Bloomington. DeBord has previously worked at Michigan and Northwestern as an assistant, and had gigs in the NFL with the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks.
Caps lock or not, DeBord does have some work ahead of him as the Hoosiers ranked 56th in total offense in 2016. The good news is Indiana will return 17 of 22 starters, giving DeBord an experienced offense.
That could bode well for filling his three expectations.
