Riley Crean, son of former Indiana basketball coach Tom Crean and nephew of Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh, was drafted Wednesday by the Chicago White Sox in the 2017 MLB draft.
The younger Crean is a right-handed pitcher at Bloomington (Ind.) North High School. He was selected in the 35th round with the 1,047th overall pick. He committed to Indiana in November 2016, months before his father was fired by IU.

After Tom Crean’s dismissal, Northwestern coach Chris Collins sent Riley a text of encouragement. As the son of former NBA player and coach Doug Collins, Chris could relate to what Riley was going after his father was fired from a high-profile sports job.
