If you followed Indiana football last season, the notion the Hoosiers defense is subpar would not a foreign concept.
However, this season, the tides have turned rather nicely for Indiana, and the stats tell the early story. Through two weeks of play, the Hoosiers are ranked in the top 10 in four different defensive categories.
After 2 weeks, #iufb's national ranks:
☑️2nd in Def TDs
☑️5th in Takeaway Margin
☑️6th in Takeaways

Of course, it’s early in the season to crown the defense better than previous years, but a few stats from this season are a boon compared to those of last year.
For example, in two games this season the Hoosiers have registered two defensive touchdowns. That’s the same number of defensive touchdowns the Hoosiers totaled all of last season. The team’s turnover margin also stands at plus-five, which almost matches the plus-eight turnover margin that Indiana finished with in 2015.
The Hoosiers have another opportunity to build on their defensive repertoire in their next game against Wake Forest, who currently ranks 120th nationally in total offense.
