Indiana-Northwestern basketball preview
Indiana is looking for its third consecutive win as it hosts Northwestern on Sunday afternoon. The Hoosiers have won back-to-back games over Minnesota and Penn State to rise to 3-2 in Big Ten play. Northwestern, meanwhile, is coming off a lopsided win over Minnesota on Wednesday night, but the Wildcats are still under .500 in conference play at 2-3.
The Hoosiers had five players score in double figures against the Nittany Lions. They were led by Juwan Morgan’s 21 points and 11 rebounds during their fourth win in five tries.
“I think the big thing is our attitude as a team is pretty good right now,” first-year Indiana coach Archie Miler said after the win over Penn State. “And with every injury and whatever, it just seems like we’ve had a couple of opportunities for guys to step up and play and they’ve made the plays and been ready.”
“It will be the same on Sunday. Every game we play is going to be very, very difficult. We know that. If we could ever find our touch behind the line here at home, it would make some things a little bit easier. But I’ll tell you, it feels good to win, especially in this conference. Man, every game’s hard.”
Northwestern saw Bryant McIntosh set a program record with 16 assists in the 83-60 win over the Gophers last week. Scottie Lindsey led all scorers in the game with 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting.
“[Wednesday] was a night we needed. I don’t think it’s a secret we’ve had a tough stretch,” Northwestern coach Chris Collins said after the victory. “I was really pleased with the life and excitement and the passion. I think that was our main message after the Penn State game, regardless of what happens we have to regain our heart, we have to regain our spirit. And we’ve been working really hard since that game to do that.”
Indiana and Northwestern split their two meetings last season, with each team winning on its home court.
