Marquez Beason, one of the top-rated recruits in the 2019 class, gave his verbal commitment to Illinois on Saturday. It’s a huge pickup for coach Lovie Smith’s program, which was hosting Beason on an unofficial visit.

“Thank you to all the schools who have recruited me to join their great program. I am truly blessed. This process has been amazing but also tiring and stressful,” Beason wrote on Twitter.
Beason, from Dallas, is ranked as the No. 54 overall player and No. 6 athlete in the 2019 recruiting class in the 247Sports composite ratings and is a 4-star recruit. He is the highest-rated prospect Illinois has had during Smith’s two-year tenure.
“They’re one piece away from winning, and I feel like I could be that piece,” Beason told 247Sports.
Beason (5-foot-11, 173 pounds) has more than 40 offers and also has visits planned to LSU and Texas A&M in the spring. Beason plays wide receiver and cornerback at Bishop Dunne High School.
