Larry Boyd, a 3-star offensive lineman from St. Louis, committed Saturday to Lovie Smith and Illinois. Boyd announced his decision on Twitter.

The 6-5, 310-pound guard seems quite smitten with the new Illini coach, as Scout.com reports he had no interest in Illinois just two weeks ago.
“The key? Two words: Lovie Smith,” Boyd told the site. “I mean, there ain’t no other coach like him in any program. You got Nick Saban and all those other coaches, but Lovie Smith is the man. He’s going to be the man around here a long time. I just wanted to get on the train before it took off. I wanted to be the one to say that I was here when we were winning championships with Lovie Smith.”
Boyd, who chose Illinois over Missouri, Oklahoma State and Arkansas, called Smith “a true inspirational human being.”
Smith appears to be doing something right, at least in the eyes of recruits. On Friday, Illinois received a commitment from 3-star wide receiver Tony Adams, also from St. Louis.
Boyd becomes Smith’s ninth commitment in the class of 2017.
