Mills, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound talent from Metuchen, N.J., said the move is in his best interest with three years of eligibility left.
He thanked the university, his coaches and everyone who was beside him in the transition while also announcing he will be eligible to play next season.
Mills started all 12 of the Fighting Illini games at long snapper for punts in 2017 and was also the long snapper on field goals for one game. He also made 2 tackles.
This tweet from Jeremy Werner of 247Sports may illustrate why Mills is leaving the program.
