Illinois signed 2-star junior college cornerback Nicholas Walker on Thursday, adding much-needed depth to its secondary. Walker, a freshman at Cisco College in Texas, didn’t receive any other offers.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Walker had 30 tackles and 3 interceptions in the 2017 season. He joins an Illinois defensive back corps with an immediate opening for a starter, given senior Jaylen Dunlap’s graduation.

Walker, a product of Miller Career Academy in St. Louis, took his official visit to Illinois on Dec. 8, and it didn’t take long for him to make up his mind.
“I have a chance to become a better player, elevate my game to the next level, play with some great coaches, a great team and a new coaching staff and try to rebuild something new,” Walker told 247 Sports’ Jeremy Werner. “I bring speed and my aggressiveness. I really like the coaching staff. It’s a younger coaching staff, so I can kind of talk to them and relate to them a bit. I also know they know some great things.”
