For Lovie Smith, the 2018 season will be his third as coach of the Illinois football team.
Smith has gone 5-19 overall in his first two seasons. Following a 2-7 record in the Big Ten in his first season, 2017 wasn’t as kind. The Fighting Illini went 0-9 against Big Ten foes a year ago.
For 2018, the regular season still seems like it’s far away. While it isn’t right around the corner, spring football is here. Teams across the country are involved in practices and scrimmages to determine where they will stand going into the fall.
Illinois is no different.
On Saturday, Smith talked with the media about what he has seen in spring practices.
And, yes, he did get asked about his beard.
