Illinois has officially announced a $132 million renovation project for Memorial Stadium.
As part of the plan, the Illini would get a new home for football operations that will include locker rooms, meeting rooms and recruiting venues. The new building will be inside a new South grandstand. New restrooms, concessions and elevators will also be added.
If the University Board of Trustees approves the plan in 2017, the plan will be completed in two phases (2019 and 2020).
“This project is an important addition to our program as we continue to build,” said coach Lovie Smith said in a statement. “Memorial Stadium is one of the historic and iconic stadiums in the nation, and this renovation will only enhance that reputation. The additions will give both our players and fans a greatly improved experience, from preparation during the week to the game-day atmosphere.”
