Latest updates on Illinois recruiting on National Signing Day
The Fighting Illini were supposed to have two verbal commits sign to play for the team on National Signing Day. That all changed on Feb. 4, when the team picked up three additional commitments — now pushing the total number of assumed soon-to-be signees to five.
If all five do sign with Illinois, the team would have a 2018 class consisting of 23 commitments. Two of those 23 are rated as 4-star prospects, while the other 21 are 3-star prospects.
Other players are still deciding between Illinois and other schools, like 4-star OLB Merlin Robertson. Robertson’s final visit he took before National Signing Day was on Jan. 26 to Illinois. Robertson would be the Fighting Illini’s top-rated recruit if he chose to sign with the program, ranked as the No. 129 overall player in the country by 247Sports.
