A Nebraska women’s volleyball assistant is getting a new job in the Big Ten.
Chris Tamas was named the new Illinois head coach Friday morning. Tamas had spent the last two seasons in Lincoln, and now will get to run his own program in Champaign.

Tamas, a former U.S. Men’s National Team captain, helped the Huskers win the 2015 national championship. He coached middle blockers at Nebraska. Head coach John Cook issued a statement wishing him well with the Illini.

At Illinois, Tamas is taking over for Kevin Hambly, who took the Stanford job in January. Illinois went 17-14 (10-10 in the Big Ten) during the 2016 season.
