“I would like to thank all of my coaches and brothers who help me reach my goals and this is only the beginning,” Childress wrote in his commitment announcement. “Thanks to all schools that gave me an opportunity to play at the next [level] but I am now committed to the University of Illinois.”
Childress is the fifth commit in Illinois’ 2019 class and the second in as many days. Cornerback Joseph Thompson committed to Illinois on Wednesday, flipping his pledge from Iowa State.
Childress is listed as the No. 94 cornerback and No. 18 player in Missouri in the 247Sports composite ratings. The 5-foot-9, 155-pound recruit plays for Trinity Catholic and he also had offers from Nebraska, Louisville and Kentucky among other schools.
