In a week that featured multiple games which were much closer than expected, ESPN’s subsequent power rankings reflect those outcomes.
Michigan still remains atop ESPN’s Big Ten power rankings after its 32-23 win over Michigan State, in which they reclaim the Paul Bunyan trophy as well as bragging rights over the Spartans.
The top half of the rankings are virtually unchanged from ESPN’s week eight power rankings, as majority of the changes in the rankings are found in the bottom half of the list.
Ohio State, who beat Northwestern 24-20, and Wisconsin, who handed Nebraska its first loss 23-17, round out the top three, respectively, while Nebraska slots at No. 4 and Penn State follows at No. 5 after dropping 62 points on Purdue.
Iowa, who was seventh in last week’s ranking, now shares the seventh spot with Minnesota who spoiled Illinois’ homecoming game 40-17. Indiana and Maryland switch spots from last week, as the Hoosiers defeated the Terrapins 42-36 on Saturday to move up to No. 9 while Maryland falls to No. 10.
Michigan State rises one spot to No. 11 after putting up a valiant effort against the Wolverines in their loss. The bottom three are Purdue, Illinois and Rutgers at No. 12, No. 13 and No. 14, respectively.
