The USA Today, in an effort to show up the Coaches Poll and AP Poll, ranked every single one of the 128 FBS teams, from one to 128.
Sitting at No. 1, however, is different than both the Coaches and AP Polls. According to USA Today, Ohio State is the top team in the nation.
USA Today felt the Buckeyes, who beat down then-N0. 14 Oklahoma 45-24, were the better team over the incumbent Alabama Crimson Tide, who sneaked by Ole Miss 48-43, in a close race.
However, Ohio State was joined in USA Today’s top-10 by two other Big Ten teams: Michigan and Michigan State. Michigan State was slotted at No. 5 following its 36-28 victory over Notre Dame, as the Wolverines fell back into the no. 7 spot after needed a late fourth quarter surge to pull away from Colorado 45-28.
There were also two other Big Ten teams in USA Today’s top-25, as Nebraska and Wisconsin both inside the top-20 following their weekend wins. Nebraska came in from out of the top-25 to place at No. 17 after beating Oregon in Lincoln. Wisconsin, the other top-25 team, came in at No. 13 after surviving a scare from Georgia State.
Nebraska replaces Iowa in the top-25, as the Hawkeyes lost to FCS North Dakota State on a last-second field goal to fall to No. 32, while Penn State finds themselves in the middle of the pack right at No. 51.
As for the rest of the conference, Minnesota is ranked No. 69, Maryland is No. 71, Indiana is N0. 73, Northwestern is No. 81, Rutgers is No. 91 and Illinois is No. 96.
And, finally, the lowest ranking Big Ten team is Purdue, checking in at No. 112.
