The Chicago Cubs are world champions. If they get their way, their home park will be serving as host of a college football bowl game.
Chicago Tribune’s Teddy Greenstein reports that Cubs President Crane Kennedy “absolutely” wants to hold an annual bowl game at Wrigley Field. Greenstein also reports the first priority is for Wrigley Field to be the home of multiple Northwestern Big Ten games starting in November 2020.
Wrigley Field held the 2010 Northwestern-Illinois game. It also wouldn’t be the first cold-weather city to hold a bowl game in a baseball stadium. Since 2010, Yankee Stadium has hosted the Pinstripe Bowl. This season, Northwestern beat Pitt 31-24.
When Illinois beat Northwestern 48-27 in 2010, both teams went toward the same end zone because of the configuration. But with Wrigley renovations, there will be more space inside the stadium to have a football field.
