The matchups have been set for the PK80 Phil Knight Invitational, which will include Big Ten basketball squads Michigan State and Ohio State. The Spartans will open against Georgetown, while the Buckeyes tip off against Gonzaga.
The event will feature 16 of the nation’s top schools associated with Nike in two eight-team brackets. The tournament, scheduled for Nov. 23-26 in Portland, Ore., will help celebrate the 80th birthday of Nike founder Phil Knight.
Each bracket will feature eight teams from eight conferences. The tournament’s 24 games will take place at the Moda Center and Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.
Participating teams, announced in November, include Michigan State, Ohio State, Arkansas, Butler, UConn, Duke, Florida, Georgetown, Gonzaga, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Portland, Portland State, Stanford and Texas.
It’s a strong group, and should add to an exciting Thanksgiving basketball weekend. The participating programs have combined for 22 national championships, 89 Final Four appearances and 391 tournament invitations.
